Field Notes of Rahgah - 20260904-S3

Before commanding the vessel, listen to it. It only knows how to ask in pictures, and there’s no telling what you’ve been ignoring. Often it’s about food. Okay — it’s mostly about food.

A particular kind of vision began appearing during my meditations sometime last year, and it continues to resurface to this day. It’s not a repeated image, it’s not even any particular setting, it’s primarily a specific category of activity. No, not the sexy kind, unless you’re into eating or being fed, then I guess so. I’m not.

At first I thought this was all random, but then I started to take note and… Any time I sit, or lie, for a session on an empty stomach, I can count on it resurfacing. It’s not random at all, I can reliably predict when it will happen, and more importantly, I can forget about it and it still happens.

You’re probably thinking, “What the hell are you talking about?”

Any time I meditate on an empty stomach or slightly hungry, I will experience a vision of eating something, every single time. It’s always in first-person point of view, typically my own hands moving a consumable item to my mouth, and as a response my physical mouth opens… Every. Single. Time. As if I’m Pavlov’s dog.

Before I made any connection to my physical state and when these first began popping up, I just thought they were some weird non-verbal communication (NVC). I don’t know, maybe somebody wants to feed me. Maybe somebody knows this is a “funny” trick and every human opens their mouth when receiving a brief vision of food moving toward them.

After noticing that it only occurs when I’m fasting or before I eat lunch (only when I’m at my agency’s office), things started to make more sense. I don’t really eat breakfast, not traditionally anyways. I get up early, I then either run 6+ miles or lift weights in my garage gym. About 4 to 5 hours after waking up, I’ll have my first meal, which is usually a “slow” protein like a Greek yogurt parfait.

The forgetting part is what seals the attribution. If expectation were doing the rendering, I’d need to be watching for it — you can talk yourself into seeing what you’re primed to see. A signal that fires reliably after I’ve stopped looking for it is running on its own trigger, not mine.

So, what I think is happening is that my ego, the mind, is sending these to my awareness. I mean, I make this physical body do a lot of physical activity it’d rather not do, ever. I’ve put it through 30+ mile weeks running like a maniac in the heat, rain, wind, etc. I don’t stop lifting weights when it gets too hot, I turn an industrial fan on and carry on. I put this body into mind awake/body asleep mode in a minute or less; years of training it to relax on command are paying off.

What I find elegant is the format of the delivery. It doesn’t send me the concept “hunger”. It sends inhabited, first-person footage, hands moving food toward a mouth, already staged from the inside. I’ve spent years sending instructions downward as imagery because that’s the language the deeper layer natively speaks. Turns out the communication runs both ways. The body files the petition, the image-engine formats it, and it arrives in my awareness as a finished scene. The body is a competent practitioner of my own method.

The least I can do is acknowledge that it’s hungry and give it some energy, especially when it’s sending me images, videos, and visions of eating food or drinking beverages. I think that’s only fair.

Another side to this that interests me is that I could use it as an example of actual separate selves. I am not the ego, I am not the mind, I am not the thoughts. Quite literally, this is a demonstration that I, the awareness within this physical body, am not the body. I exert my will on it to perform physical tasks, ignore hunger pangs, manage pain during activities, repair, prepare for planned situations such as odd wake-up times, and relax deeply on command.

Notice the traffic isn’t symmetric. Awareness commands: thirty-mile weeks, the heat, the industrial fan, sleep-on-demand. The body can only petition, and its one channel upward is sensation and imagery. Command moves down, petition moves up, and the mouth opening on cue is the process compressed into one second: a loop executing below volition while the one watching it execute is not the machinery.

It’s not choosing to do any of that; like I’ve already said, this body would rather not move and get massive eating nothing but Reese’s peanut butter products and fried (crispy) foods. So, again, the least I can do is acknowledge that it’s communicating with my awareness and take care of it. Not every request gets approved, there is no Reese’s-only regime coming, but telling comfort lobbying apart from a legitimate request is the same discernment I run everywhere else, pointed inward.

When I told Kim about all this, she said the same thing has been happening to her. Same phenomenon, same conditions, except it only started this year. I told her before she confirmed, so that’s corroboration with an asterisk, but this mechanism doesn’t lack outside documentation.

In the 1940s Minnesota Starvation Experiment, semi-starved volunteers found their thoughts, conversations, and dreams colonized by food. The desert monastics logged it during fasts seventeen centuries ago, reliably enough that Evagrius put gluttony first among the eight assaulting thoughts, and their framework filed the visions as demons. Same stimulus, same footage, much different perspective. They declared war on the messenger while I made a parfait.

The interesting part of “only this year” is that standard equipment doesn’t switch on, it’s always on. If the uplink is built in, it was always transmitting, for her, for me, for everyone. The signal didn’t start appearing, it started being noticed. Practice doesn’t summon these things, it clears the noise by tuning the internal and external antenna.

There’s nothing new to arrive which has always been broadcasting.

If you want the demonstration for yourself, it costs a skipped breakfast and one sitting. Sit down hungry, settle, and wait. The footage will come, someone’s hands, probably yours, moving food toward your mouth, and your physical mouth will open without asking you first. Watch that happen once, and you’ll know exactly if you’re the ego or the awareness.
