The instrument in the signal.

Field Notes of Rahgah 20260907-20260913 - Retrospective

The fourth spread of Field Notes of Rahgah.

20260914-S4

The fourth spread is done. Three entries this week, each one a panel: a stone head returning home guided by the blue beam, a hand at the door panel, a footbridge into the mountain. The instrument had to be rebuilt before the signal could be accepted. All three turned out to be about the same thing: preparation with no idea what was to come. What has to already be in order before a door will show itself.

Years of running and lifting, a pandemic in the middle, not one thought above the neck, and the sky waited, as it always had. The house is the same order of events at a slower speed: eight years of a calm baseline nobody set out to build, and it responds to a deviation now like an allergic reaction. Neither was built for what it turned out to be for.

Everything gets sorted by texture first, that’s the part I trust most. Heavy was my word for years before I had any vocabulary for it, and it turned out to be the same discernment I use on non-physical contacts, pointed at a living person walking through my front door.

Contempt flows the same way. The energy it takes to mark something as beneath attention is proportional to how close you are to it; I wasn’t mocking spirituality from a distance, I was guarding it until the body could carry it naked. A formless energy double feels the same way too. Not having a form is a symptom, and you can’t build a form for a self you haven’t met.

Which leaves the operator. I’ve gone to the origin of everything — I think — to bring back its name, except the thing doing the operating. The mission was predictably aimed at the Other, but how am I going to make meaningful contact with the Other when I don’t know the nature of what’s doing the contacting?

Know whose force is heavy and meet them with your own raised, or don’t meet them at all. Expect to pay when you meet them tired, and I paid with this last week. The rule for whoever walks through the front door — physical or otherwise — is the rule for the descent.

The plot running through all three: preparation comes first, and it never announces itself. The body before the sky, the baseline before the deviation, the self before the Other. You don’t always get to know what you’re training for, but you most certainly find out afterward.

The plot finds itself written in an old text, and the chapter page carries it now: Know yourself and you are known. Fail to, and you live as poverty itself.

To summarize Chapter 2.1: preparation, recognition, crossing.

The door was never the hard part. Finding out who has been standing in front of it is. After all, he was there the whole time. The dive is pointed at him now.
