Field Notes of Rahgah - 20260918-S5
Remember to follow your baseline preparation the same way that you always have. The steps themselves aren’t magical, but the consistency of the ritual signals somatic preparedness.
Most of the meditations while I’m at the office are shorter than my usual and typically involve either a pass at problem solving or simply practicing presence. It is kind of funny to say “simply practicing presence” as it basically only sounds easy, while in practice the experience can be very different. These sessions aren’t exactly noteworthy, but curiously, once in a while something odd will pop in.
This Monday, 20260915, I reclined in my office chair for a 20-minute meditation before grabbing lunch, a typical routine. Because I’m at the office, I fired up the Expand app and set the timer section on F12 (expanded awareness) binaural beats.
Prep was boring and predictable, good. I settled into F10 (mind awake, body asleep) fairly quickly and expanded into F12 without incident. I didn’t have a problem-solving goal for this day, so I kept expanding a little bit at a time, nearly matching my breath. Nice and easy, very restorative presence meditation.
Not sure what happened, but when coming out of the trance and before winding down, I experienced something new. I was mildly jolted into full awareness after briefly spacing out; in front of me appeared a bright green field of dots. The field arranged itself into a grid and repositioned so it lay at a perspective running away from me but wider horizontally across my field of view.
The now grid-field twisted itself into a tube and, while in motion, grew. It presented itself as if I was looking down a wormhole or a portal. Very quickly it concentrated all its bright green parts into a single point and disappeared.
I sat there for a moment before moving on to my usual exit affirmation. Finally, after putting my headphones away, I ate a homemade burrito; it was chicken with Frank’s hot sauce. Kim makes the best burritos.
