The ninth spread of Field Notes of Nobody’s Ghost.

Three times this week I went looking for something and found it already in hand.

Wednesday it was a state. I’ve been projecting into Locale 1 for a year or two and calling it something else, and the aspect that finally sorted them was the exit: a felt pull-back, a transit, a click into the body, awake on arrival. Dreams simply end, always.

Friday it was a feeling. A sentence said once on a run, a year ago, that asked for nothing and got an answer from Anahata. I kept it out of the record because of a word, a name, and this week decided the trepidation about it doesn’t get a vote anymore. It had been with me the whole way home.

Sunday it was a skill. A track I’d failed four times turned out to be teaching something I’ve done since I was a child, pulling energy in through the palms, and the body had been letting me know by interrupting the session with a cough. The instrument knew before I did, and it was right to be bored. Instead of making the ego something you drown and leave for dead, make a partnership out of this physical life situation that you’re both experiencing.

Nothing was acquired this week; instead, all of it was recognized. That’s the remembrance I keep writing about in the abstract, run three times at three scales inside seven days: a year, a lifetime, a childhood. The work turned out to be about noticing what the reach was already holding.

The other thread is the question. The garage projection ended when I interrogated a clock. The bedroom projection ended when I asked with my hand who was under the covers. The one thing this week that arrived whole came from a sentence that asked for nothing. States end where the asking starts, and the best material shows up where it doesn’t.

The ghost had the same lessons without being told that they were lessons, perhaps because they are only lessons to us as the audience. He landed on his back, stood up, looked around, and went off the tower headfirst before he’d worked out why. He became an owl on the way down. Now he’s flying toward a hovering city under glass with no idea what it is, and the wings are doing the flying while he stays out of their way.

He’s nobody’s ghost. He doesn’t have to confirm or prove anything to anyone, himself included.

That’s the posture for the week ahead: when the pull-back begins, get busy in Locale 1; when a question surfaces, invite the answer rather than reach for it; when something you’ve been reaching for turns out to already be in your hands, let it be what it already was.
